STREET STYLE | AFTERPAY AUSTRALIA FASHION WEEK 2023 DAY ONE

AAFW is over (for me anyway) for another year, and it’s been the crazy, colourful week I expected it to be. Working with the dream team at Afterpay once again, I shot street style all week and also a few runways. The vibes felt similar to last year, and the week has definitely moved on from the industry only event that it used to be. Whether this is a good or bad thing, depends on your position within the industry.

While there were very few heavyweight Australian brands showing, this made way for smaller labels to have their moment in the sun, how they chose to do that varied across the week. From a street style perspective, there were a few trends that popped up repeatedly: sheer tops/dresses often sans bra (lots of free nipples) and new interpretations on denim, layered, doubled, tripled, deconstructed. From an accessories pov, biker boots are still having their moment and the Acne mules with bows were definitely spotted multiple times.
