Fashion Trend or Fashion Victim

stylesnooperdan Puma Fenty creeperWhile I was away in September, I saw quite a few girls wearing Rihanna's Puma black suede Fenty creepers. At first I didn't think anything of it, until after the fifth sighting when I noticed a girl walking down The Strand in London, looking uber cool. I looked over her outfit and halted immediately when I noticed she too was wearing Rihanna's Puma black suede Fenty creepers. That's it I thought. I immediately pulled my phone out, googled Puma store London and hailed a black cab to take me to Carnaby St. 20 minutes later I walked out of the Puma store, proud as punch with my new black suede Fenty creepers endorsed by Rihanna and random girl on street #win.

Except... 4 months later and my beloved Puma black suede Fenty creepers are still in their matching Puma black suede Fenty bag, never worn.

Why? Because every time I've tried them on and looked in the mirror I've found myself unconvinced. 'Nah, not with these jeans', 'Hmm, these don't really work with these pants' or 'Way too heavy for this dress'. When in reality, I think the problem is actually more along the lines of 'Dan, these don't suit you' *Gasp*  It's a sad and depressing conclusion to come to given how convinced I was that these would keep me looking super cool and obviously improve my overall life. And then it dawned on me - in my current situation, was I a fashion victim?

I'm going to say NO (because I wasn't leaving the house wearing the sneakers so technically I hadn't crossed over to victim territory) but it did make me think about knowing your own personal style and knowing when to say no to trends. I mean, what influences you these days? Is it that WAG you've loved & followed forever, that high end fashion mag you subscribe to, that minimalist monochrome blogger (take your pick) you follow or that Kardashian with the tiny waist & sculpted butt (take your pick)? Or that girl you saw on the street? And if these peeps have it/use it/wear it does that mean it's right for you? Probs not but if you're like me, you'll prob try it anyway.

The point of this long-winded story is that as trends come and go, some things will be right up our alley and some won't. We all have those things that we love but can't pull off *cough* wide brim hats, jumpsuits & palazzo pants *cough*, and that's ok if it means avoiding victim status, cos let's be honest, no one wants to be that gal...

When have you come face to face with victim status? What do you love but can't wear? Tell me in the comments below!

Here's what I can't pull off, but wish I could

JUMPSUITSI'm too short and square, but if I could oh how I would wear these everyday everyday.[show_shopthepost_widget id="2335068"]

WIDE BRIM HATSMy girls from Sportsgirl had to spell it out for me one day, I still kinda don't believe them.[show_shopthepost_widget id="2335087"]

WIDE LEG PANTSI've wanted to wear wide leg pants my whole life, but alas it is a dream that will never be realised.[show_shopthepost_widget id="2335091"]
