When in Rome...

It's been seven years since I've been overseas. Yes, SEVEN years. So when I decided 4 months ago that I couldn't take it anymore, I called on the gals in my family and voila: a European vacay with my mum, sister and niece was born. First stop: Roma.

As a wannabe european for most of life, I've always been embarrassed to say that I've never been to Italy - I certainly stock my cupboard like an Italian, my carbonara has never ever had cream in it and I could eat an antipasto platter for breakfast. Fact.So when I arrived in Rome it was a somewhat surreal moment. Feeling relatively okay (but looking average as) after 22 hours in the sky, I was ready for Rome to do it's best with me and the following 3 days were some of the best in my life...

rome in 3 days

The Trevi Fountain - There's a good reason everyone raves about the Trevi Fountain, it's completely spectacular in the most obnoxious way possible. It unexpectedly appears before you in and amongst Rome's teeny streets, glaringly bright and unashamedly in your face. It's tourist central obviously, so get up before the sun & get there early to beat the crowd.

Gelato - No matter what delicious gelato/gelati/sorbet/ice-cream you've had before, nothing compares to Roman gelato. Flavours like raspberry & rosewater had me devouring cups of gelato three times a day.

People watch in a Piazza - There's so much to do in Rome and it would be easy to get caught up in the tourist track but one of my favourite things to do in Rome was take some time out & people watch in a piazza. My local was Piazza Del Popolo and Rosati looked after me each day with coffee and the perfect vantage point.

I stayed at Hotel Anahi near Piazza del Popolo
I booked with
I flew with Qantas & Emirates
I stayed for 3 nights which was no where near enough
I got around mainly on foot butalsotaxi's when necessary
I started the day with a capuccino at Rosati most days
I ended the day with a bowl of pasta pretty much every night
I loved how easy Rome is to get around
I wasn't wrapped that the Spanish Steps were closed while I was there
I was surprised how much I loved Rome, I cannot wait to go back
