Milan Called, So I Went

In my many years scouring fashion week street style galleries, most of my all-time fav pics are from Milan. It's the city I've always wanted to shoot street style in and it's also the city that everyone warned me was 'not pretty'. And they're right, Milan is not pretty - it's industrial, it's corporate and it's got better things to do than be pretty. And that's because it's cool AF. I like to think of it as Italy's Melbourne - packed full of good food, fashion & culture. The food is obviously amazing and the pizza in particular is delish, although I did learn (through a plate of Risotto alla Milanese) that I don't really like saffron - there's a random uninteresting fact for you. Anyway as I was saying, the food is schmick, the end.

As one of the top 4 global fashion capitals, I had high expectations of the shopping in Milan and I was not disappointed. High street chains like Zara, Bershka, & H&M have setup their gigantic flagships stores on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II so that's a great starting point if you're there to shop. Head east away from the Duomo and take a left at Piazza San Babila because Via Monte Napoleone is a must-see even just for window shopping, as the flagship designer stores are beyond amazing, particularly the Gucci store - 3 levels of pink velvet is all I'll say.

But what I really came to Milan for was streetstyle and thanks to my friend Muc @iammucci (international photographer/film-maker/cinematographer extraordinaire) hooking me up with locations, I headed off to the Gucci, Max Mara and Fendi shows to do just that and it was swell. How could it not be with the worlds most influential and fashionable authorities all just casually walking amongst me - I'm talking Emmanuelle Alt, Anna Dello Russo, Miroslava Duma and Carlotta Oddi just name a few. These people are the real deal and just ooze amazingness, much like Milan itself.

I adore this city and cannot wait to go back...

milan: How i did it

I stayed in an amazing Airbnb apartment on Via Festa Del Perdono
I travelled by train with TGV and would always recommend train travel in Europe where possible
I stayed for 3 nights which was mainly because accomodation is expensive in Milan, especially during Milan Fashion Week
I got around mainly on foot butalsotaxi’s when going between shows
I started the day with a capuccino & croissant from Ai Confini del Gusto everyday
I ended the day editing my street style pics from shooting outside the Fendi, Max Mara and Gucci shows
I loved how friendly the people in Milan are, particularly the taxi drivers who were always up for a chat
If I went back I'd stay longer and go and shoot at more shows. See you next year MFW.
I was surprised how similar Milan was to Melbourne. Super cool with great food and even better fashion. I was also surprised how easy it was to get around.
