Oscars 2016

The Academy Awards is one of my favourite days of the year - red carpet coverage on steroids, glorious gowns and always a few outfit disasters so lets discuss:

As always, lets start with my best dressed who this year has to go to Alicia Vikander, the girl who can not put a foot sartorially wrong at the moment. As expected she wore Louis Vuitton and just nailed the entire look - hair, styling everything. Modern while still beautiful, she looked effortless and like the start of a new generation of hollywood celebrity - 9/10.In second place, it's got to be Olivia Wilde doesn't it? She's come a long way from the O.C and now embodies that fresh, shiny beautifulness (I just made a word) that Hollywood just eats for breakfast. Her Maison Valentino gown was pleated perfection with that back detail which made it all the more interesting. Loved the skin to fabric ratio too, not too cheap and not too conservative - 8/10.Rounding out the top three, is Margot Robbie who won me over in her sparkletastic Tom Ford golden gown. Hair was slightly underdone, but in a weird way I think that's why I love her whole look. The elongated black tassle clutch was a stroke of styling genius and all in all, she just oozed effortlessness - 8/10.

Lady Gaga is rocking my world at the moment and her look today was no different. Brandon Maxwell created the perfect fusion dress of Oscars classic with Gaga quirk and she looked beautiful - 7.5/10.J Law usually glides into the top 3 without breaking a sweat, but I was just a little blah about her Dior Couture gown today. She still slayed most others but just not her best. Interesting and definitely different to her usual strapless situation, it was still beautiful but there was something going on with the straps that put me off. I would have loved to see this sans straps - 6.5/10.Cate Blanchett is beautiful. The End. As such she can literally wear a wedding cake (as she did today) and still make it look next level beautiful. I dare anyone else to try and nail this dress like she doe, it's won't happen, so - 7.5/10.T Swizzle at the Vanity Fair afterparty looked shizz hot, a nice change for her usually girly, pretty, I'm-so-friendly look. Slinky & sexily cut, this is definitely a look she should work more often - 8/10.Allessandra Ambrosio was sultry in Balmain and definitely won points with me (you know I'm a sucker for black & gold) for her general chicness. 7.5/10.Rooney Mara your skin defies life and your dress, I can't even it's so beautiful, but given this is the third time you've worn it, might be time to try something new - 7/10.

Can we just discuss the crew who decided to embrace a 90's throwback for a moment? Reese, Rachel McAdams, Tina and Kate W I'm talking about you. Yes, I get the throwback but it does kinda look like you all hit up Spurling Hire on Keilor Road. And Jennifer Garner, 1993 called and wants it's dress back. And your mum called too, she wants to remind you that you're not Meryl Streep.

All in all it's been a pretty good year for the Academy red carpet, but the divide between old school glamour and the new up and comers seems to be getting bigger and bigger when it comes to the style stakes. Until the Met Gala peeps, enjoy the rest...
