Why you need to know about Vetements

Every now and then a new designer or label comes along that really makes waves in the somewhat predictable world of fashion. Vetements is currently that label.Made up of a group of well trained & seasoned designers, Vetements is fronted by head designer Demna Gvasalia, who also happens to be the new creative director at Balenciaga. Gvasalia's (pronounced with a silent G) previous employers include Margiela and Vuitton, so he is certainly no new kid on the block. Along with his collective of mostly unnamed designers and his brother Gurum, Gvasalia has effortlessly brought Vetements into the spotlight through their ironically simplistic aesthetic, often described as bad-taste-meets-good-taste. Russian stylist Lotta Volkova adds the final cherry on top of the Vetements look and has quickly become one of the most in demand stylists in the industry thanks to her unique taste - influenced by growing up in Soviet Russia during the 90's.

Through runway presentations at a sex clubs, tacky Chinese restaurant and a church, the label defies all that traditional fashion houses represent and provides a much-needed lethal dose of anti-fashion for those who search for something new in designer fashion. You can thank the Vetements crew for the resurgence of the bomber jacket and for giving sportswear another lifeline, but don't let their DHL tees and Champion inspired tracksuits fool you - this is still a high fashion label for fashion folk with the aforementioned tracksuit setting you back no less than $1200 and just a neat $370 for the DHL tee. And lets not forget those jeans, the frayed hem jeans seen on everyone who's anyone over the last two international Fashion Weeks, those bad boys start at $1600.

So while you may tsk at the price and wince at the styling, don't do so too soon, because high street retailers are bound to quickly (if they haven't already) swoop on Vetements and pump out some cheap copies, which by then you'll probably be ready for. If however you can't wait until then, here's what you can currently get your hands on...
